Local Transport Strategies

Individual Authorities within the Metropolitan Area have developed a range of local transport strategies. There will be major revisions to reflect the outcomes of the sub-regional studies underway. These will report during 2005 and are making full use of the PRISM transport model to assist their deliberations.

The Black Country Study is considering long term regeneration needs in the areas of Wolverhampton City and Sandwell, Dudley and Walsall Metropolitan Councils.<span style=“mso-spacerun: yes”> This study will establish a framework for transport improvements over the next 30 years, including new housing, leisure facilities and employment opportunities.<span style=“mso-spacerun: yes”> This framework will provide the context for local strategies such as the Walsall Transport Strategy.

The Coventry / Solihull / Warwickshire Sub-Regional Study will establish a framework for transport investment to support the regeneration of areas in Coventry City and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Councils.

At the heart of our Area is Birmingham. <span style=“mso-spacerun: yes”> A 20-year transport strategy, ‘Visions’, was published by the City Council in 2000.<span style=“mso-spacerun: yes”> This will be revised to take account of recent developments, including the growth proposals discussed with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) during 2004/05.

In addition, the Passenger Transport Authority’s over-arching, 20-year public transport strategy for the Metropolitan Area is regularly reviewed to accommodate changing circumstances.

Our LTP2 takes into account provisional outputs of these studies and reviews.<span style=“mso-spacerun: yes”> It is likely that detailed changes will be required for the submission of our final LTP2 in March 2006, to reflect the two sub-regional studies and Birmingham growth proposals.
