WEST MIDLANDS ROAD SAFETY PARTNERSHIP

MISSION STATEMENT

To promote safety for all road users in the West Midlands Metropolitan Area and support the delivery of the West Midlands targets for the reduction in the number and severity of road traffic accident casualties

The West Midlands Road Safety Partnership was formed in April 2007 to act as the principal advisor to the West Midlands Planning and Transportation Sub-Committee on road safety matters.

Key tasks include:

Lead on behalf of the West Midlands Metropolitan Local Authorities on publicity and campaigns to promote road safety in the west Midlands.

Lead on responding to Government on consultations and other matters affecting road safety.

Administer the Road Safety Grant including approval of the Operational Case for the deployment of safety cameras, distribution of Road Safety Grant, monitoring expenditure and programme delivery and outcomes.

Determine against the background of the requirement that only cameras sited in accordance with national guidelines may be installed any proposals to change the installation criteria.

Submit a report at 6 month intervals to the West Midlands Planning and Transportation Sub-Committee setting out progress towards targets, and how best value for money is being achieved in respects of road safety aspects of the Local Transport Plan.

Members of the Road Safety Partnership Board are drawn from representatives of the seven local authorites which make up the West Midlands Metropolitan Area, along with representaives of West Midlands Police Aiuthority, West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority, Her Majesties Courts Service, West Midlands Strategic Health Authority and the Highways agency.
