Red Routes Phase 2

Following the successful implementation of Red Route measures as part of the Pilot and Package 1 routes, funding is being sought from Central Government for a second Phase of Red Routes. Further information on the work undertaken so far is outlined in the text below.

Districts Likely to be Involved in Phase 2

Following consultation with Members, Chief Officers and other stakeholders it is anticipated that all the West Midland Districts will be involved in the development of Phase 2 to ensure a comprehensive and coherent Red Route Network. This will ensure that the network connects all major cities in the West Midlands and provide links to the key motorway junctions.

Route Selection Criteria

The routes to be included in Phase 2 have not yet been selected and all Districts have been asked to identify routes for inclusion. Routes to be taken forward will be subject to a full and comprehensive appraisal to ensure that the anticipated benefits of Red Routing are achieved in a cost efficient manner.

Timescale For Funding Submission

It is anticipated, following Member approval, that the Major Scheme Business Case will be submitted to Central Government in spring 2008.

Anticipated Construction Programme

This will depend on the outcome of the funding submission but will follow on from the works being implemented under Phase 1.
