Red Routes in Birmingham

Birmingham is set for the completion of its first three Red Routes: Stratford Road A34 (Pilot Route); Walsall Road A34; Tyburn Road A38 (including Lichfield Road A5127).

A34 Stratford Road

As well as being a Pilot route for the introduction of Red Routes to the West Midlands this was the first route to be implemented in Birmingham. The Red Route starts at the Solihull Boundary to tie in with the existing Red Route through Shirley and then extends along the complete length of Stratford Road in Birmingham to run through the Hall Green, Springfield, Sparkhill and Sparkbrook areas.

A34 Walsall Road

This Red Route extends along the A34 corridor north of the city centre towards Walsall. The first section of the route to be implemented will be between Lancaster Circus and Booth Farms Road junction. The remaining section to the Scott Arms junction will be completed late in 2007. Sandwell and Walsall Councils are planning Red Routes for their sections of the A34, to provide a continuous route from Birmingham City Centre to Walsall City Centre.

A38 Tyburn Road

This Red Route extends from Lancaster Circus along the A5127 Lichfield Road / Aston Road North as far as Salford Circus. It will then continue along the A38 Tyburn Road as far as the Kingsbury junction (near the Lidl Supermarket).

Future Schemes

The Council is also currently investigating the potential implementation of Red Routes on the following strategic roads:
