The 5-Year Integrated Transport Programme
We strive to achieve VFM from our programmes of IT block spending. We pool resources so that funding can be directed to key Metropolitan initiatives.
As examples, we have maintained high levels of funding for the Bus Showcase programme (£9.83 million in 2005/06) and for development of the Help2Travel (MATTISSE) information system. Some 25% of total funding has been allocated to Centro for public transport improvements.
In setting individual budgets, Authorities balance local needs against wider LTP2 priorities and targets. Their programmes are based on Planning Guidelines, with adjustments to reflect commitment to Metropolitan priorities. We believe we can add value by tackling these issues jointly, across Authority boundaries. These elements are all central to our aim of ensuring that congestion does not get worse, despite increased economic activity.
