This LTP's Objectives
This LTP2 takes forward the Objectives of the 2003 LTP, which remain relevant and focused on the needs of our Area. The Objectives are to:
- ensure that the transport system underpins the economic revitalisation of the West Midlands Metropolitan Area
- ensure that transport contributes towards social inclusion by increasing accessibility for everyone
- move towards a more sustainable pattern of development and growth
- improve safety and health for all
- integrate all forms of transport with each other, with other land uses, and other policies and priorities

These Objectives were adopted following extensive stakeholder involvement and public consultation. In preparing our LTP2, we have analysed the Corporate Plans of the Metropolitan Authorities and Local Community Strategies. We have also consulted with stakeholders and the public.
Evidence
The objectives of our LTP2 are consistent with the Coventry Corporate Plan, Coventry Community Plan and Coventry Best Value Performance Plan. For example, the 'first steps' for transport in the Community Plan are to:
- increase the frequency and availability of bus services
- increase park and ride service availability
- encourage more adults and children to walk, cycle or use public transport to get to work and school
- increase opportunities for safer cycling and walking
We have assessed the Objectives to ensure that they take account of Government advice and particularly the TSP. We believe that our Objectives provide the right direction for our Vision for the Metropolitan Area.i.
Table 1 ‘LTP Objectives and Shared Themes’ illustrates the synergy between our LTP2 Objectives and the four themes of the TSP.
Our Objective of economic revitalisation accords with the Shared Priority of ‘promoting the economic vitality of localities’. Our Objective of improving safety and health for all accords with the Shared Priority of ‘promoting healthier communities and narrowing health inequalities’. Our Objective of contributing to social inclusion accords with the Shared Priority of ‘improving the quality of life of older people'.
How we perform against our Objectives is recorded in our Annual Progress Reports.
