Introduction
Why do we need a Local Transport Plan?
Travel and transport are essential to almost every aspect of everyone's life. We travel to get to school or work, meet family and friends, go shopping, watch our favourite football team, or get to the cinema or places of worship. The goods we buy in shops and the raw materials used in factories all have to be transported. In fact, very little happens without needing to walk, cycle, ride or drive, or use a car, bus, train or lorry.
We all want a better quality of life. But as each of us travels, we can create problems for other travellers, local residents and the environment. So there is a huge challenge in improving travel for everyone, without creating congestion, noise or pollution that also affect each of us.
We need a Local Transport Plan (LTP) so that everyone, including the Government, understands the issues, appreciates the opportunities for change and sees how they can play a part in making the West Midlands Metropolitan Area a better place in which to live, work and enjoy life. This LTP sets out what our Local Authorities are planning to do.
